Basic Math

Oh the parents will just shake their heads especially my father-in-law….

You know there are times where I wonder how in the heck did I ever finish high school, then there are times where I wonder why I never finished college. Well this wasn’t one of them. I just laid out some floors and came up with 1 1/4 inches of space at the end, but I need to leave 1/4 gap on each end so I had 3/4 inch to fill. So I got out the old trusty paper and pencil and went to work on some basic fractions. I’m not sure what I was thinking but had I not decided to double/triple check myself I would have been seriously screwed.

Never fear dad I actually figured it out all on my own once I actually started using the gray matter in my head and figured out that I need to cut the ends to 2 1/4 (each board is 3 3/4 wide). Let’s see if I’m right, first I took the 1/4 off the 1 1/4 left me with 1 inch. I then took 1/4 off of the 3 3/4 board leaving me with 3 1/2. Add both the 3 1/2 and 1 gives me 4 1/2, divide by 2 and I get 2 1/4.

I’m so proud of myself…..sad yes I know it, although I have a feeling that I’m still WRONG!!! I guess I’ll just have to trust myself on this one. Feel free to make fun of me on this one, maybe that’s why I push my kids so hard to learn basic math, here I thought I would never use fractions in “real” world and yet blah…
